Well, I wouldn't ride this scooter, but I thought some of you would be interested.

Vespa is collaborating with the Fred Perry fashion brand to make a limited edition of Fred Perry Vespa scooters to celebrate the fashion brand′s 100th anniversary. The Vespa Fred Perry Special Edition will feature the famous laurel leaf logo and Fred Perry detailing. The other feature includes a beautiful seat. The Fred Perry Special Edition will be produced only 100 for Perry's centennial anniversary. It will be sold starting from August in the a few markets such as UK, France, Japan, and the US. Unfortunately Piaggio (the parent of Vespa) has not confirmed the price of its special edition scooter.

North Carolina Tamales: A steamed collard green, wrapped around sweet corn and cheddar polenta And smoked N.C> style barbecue (which was , smoked, chopped, and sauced in house).

Locally grown Figs stuffed with artisan Gorgonzola cheese and wrapped in hickory smoked bacon then roasted to sweet, savory and gooey perfection.

This is the "cooker" we smoke our pork butts in to make the N.C. BBQ. We are doing a batch tomorrow that we will take out Saturday to chop and sauce. MMM MMM!

So, we all (well, not all but several) managed to get together, grill some meat at Thor's place, drink some beers (not too many!), and get in a ride, before heading down to Empire and then parting ways for the night. Funny thing that happened: So we are sitting there in the back yard, bullshitting, when Thor looks over and says, " Hey Pat, doesn't that look like your old ET2" Sure enough, upon approaching the neighbor we not only found Pat's stolen Vespa (2 years gone almost), but also did some interrogating and figured out that someone we know actually stole it, but he's currently under lock and key for bank robbery, so no revenge happening at the moment. All told, a great night, with some good people, good weather and even better scooters!

The Vespa Dolcevita is based on the shapely design of the original model of the 1950′s, with a styling reference to the "Corsa" racing versions, where the seat was positioned on the edge of the rear section, which integrates the engine compartment.
The result is a chopper-like Vespa, with a tear-drop shaped rear end and a slightly rearward-sloping seat. It features an essential instrumentation, with a reduced legshield and compact LED lights. The front fender is made of components inspired by the aeronautical world, which pays homage to the first Vespa models, built using parts taken from WWII planes.
At first glimpse, the overall design is balanced towards the rear, with this visual effect being mitigated by the the thin yet present front end.

Woke up this morning and rode my scoot (which I finally have back after four months) over to my friend's and got the title (I finally finished paying off the damn thing). Came back and Jenn and I went out to go to the DMV, which we aborted mission on and instead had some lunch and went to the pumpkin patch. Took a hayride out to pick them...all you can carry for 20 bux. We got seven, not counting the big one we already bought from the supermarket last week. Then we came home and have been chillin, got some pizza, painted the Mickey's bee on my scooter.

Nine Years Ago Today...

I was watching, in person, as the 1st tower burned like a torch in the otherwise beautiful September morning sky. I was at work, about to get off the night shift at UPS when someone asked if I had seen the plane crash on TV in the break room. I had not, so I went out to the parking lot to see for myself. Holy Fuck! I thought, Richie (my brother-in-law) and Jeanette and some friends all work there..I was instantly scared for their lives and it started to occur to me how many thousands of people were down there right then. So I ran back inside, punched out and started to speed home. Work was in Secaucus, NJ and home was in Jersey City Heights. I had a clear view of the Trade Center for the entire 5 minute drive home. About halfway there I saw the second plane approach and crash into tower 2. WTF! Things were instantly different. This was NO accident. This was an ATTACK! We were under seige. Laws, speed limit, everything was instantly dismissed. My priority was getting home to my (then) wife (who should have been leaving or gone to work by then). I burst into our apartment to find her asleep. I scared the hell of her with my abruptness. She had called out of work for the day (which was very unusual) and had no idea of the events occurring just 2 miles away. She knew instantly that something was horribly wrong. She was begging me to tell her and I insisted she just try calling her brother and her father's girlfriend. All circuits were busy. She again asked, yelling at me in fear, "What was going on?!" I just said put on some pants and come with me. Seconds later we were outside and I said "Look", (pointing to the Towers), "We are under attack!" The streets were chaotic, filled with onlookers. There were several car accidents and already someone had attacked the Indian guy (not Muslim at all, but wore a turban) who owned the liquor store up the block from my place, they beat him and his wife and wrecked the store...The next three days were horrible, it took that long to locate our family members (all of whom were safe) and the news of the death of some friends made it our way as well. The worst part was something rarely mentioned...the smell, the soot, and the fear. Over the course of the next few weeks, two houses within 3 blocks of where I lived were raided by the Government and it became known that these terrorists ate and made plans in the same Diner I often frequented and lived close by. I can't really bear to say more at this point as my memory is flooding with the horrible shit I saw and it's upsetting me. I gotta go......

Piranha 1978 VS. 2010

Okay, so Jenn & I recently viewed both the original 1978 version and the, just out, 2010 3-D versions of the Piranha movies. Although the two do carry some parallels, in that some scenes are very similar in their set-up and execution, on the whole, they are entirely different in where the Piranha originated, how they infiltrated, etc. Both are quite good, campy, flesh-eating fishy fun with plenty of torn flesh and ripped in half bodies and copious amounts of bare ass and titties. Hooray for boobs! I feel the more recent one pokes more fun at itself and scores well in the humor department. Worth a watch.

Plot

The Emperor's Minister of State Cheng, an authoritarian ruler, arranges for Hu Lung, one of his old students to distract General Chow while he assassinates the leader of the Ming rebels. Chow hunts for Hu Lung, but must avoid the authorities since he is a suspect in the murder. He eventually finds Chow, but is thwarted by Hu Lung's master, Phillip Ko, and Minister Cheng's hired enforcer, Shen Yu. Shen Yu is hunting for Chow in order to arrest him.
Although Shen Yu wants to arrest Chow, he does not kill him, preferring that he goes to court first. This goes against Minister Cheng's orders to kill him. Hu Lung and Chow escape in the ensuing confrontation between Shen Yu and Phillip Ko. Hu Long confesses to his master that he was ordered to kill the rebel leader, and Phillip Co confronts Minister Cheng.
Chow learns kung fu from a young child and his sister to defeat the Invincible Armor technique, but his training is cut short when Shen Yu arrives to arrest him again. He gives Chow three days to clear his name. Minister Chang's plot is eventually exposed, and he is confronted by Chow, Shen Yu, and others.

Man, I tell ya....not having my scoot sux, sux, sux! Not only do I have to rely on Jenn for a ride anywhere (and I'm damn thankful for her), but also, I just miss riding my scooter. The longest I had ever not ridden it since the day I got it was a nine day stretch just under a year ago when I wrecked and broke my collar bone and cracked my pelvis. Hell, even that only kept me off it for a lil' over a week. So, all of my parts (minus the new piston) have been ordered and a new piston has been promised by the folks at Scooter Mercato sometime next week. So, hopefully around this time next week I'll be blogging about how happy I am to be back on the road. Until then....work, drink, sleep, repeat.

The ride up to get the kids this weekend was grueling. Got off to a late start, rode nearly 90 miles on my scoot (which I enjoyed), then took my parents car up to NJ. Holiday traffic was bitch! The normally 5 1/2 drive took 8hrs. Got the kids and headed right back to VA. Today (Saturday) we had a great day. Woke up early, ate breakfast, then went for a swim, watched some Spongebob, ate lunch, rode the scooter, watched more Spongebob, played some ball, swam some more, went out for pizza, with Me, the kids, my parents, and my Grandma...four generations! Tomorrow we have plans to go canoeing and then it's back to NJ and the lo-o-ong drive/ride home for me...I'll be exhausted...but it's always worth it!

The Human Centipede

So, I've been anticipating watching this movie. The story line is so wonderfully depraved while (although not possible) medically realistic. Its based in reality. No horror BS of a decrepit and strange monster of sorts chasing and knifing it's way through some scantily clad teen's summer camp like your typical "horror" movie. It's more of a Dr. Frankenstein, mad scientist type of flick. Only it's premise is so original and twisted: Joining humans surgically at the mouth and anus to form a human centipede. It was wonderfully cast, with a special kudos to the lead role played by Dieter Laser. That dude is just naturally creepy. I also appreciated the fact that the front human in the centipede was cast as a Japanese dude, who speaks no English, while the rear two were dumb American broads from NYC on a European vacation. I like that it isn't overly graphic and leaves most to the imagination, although I think it needed at least one scene of the natural pulling and tearing that I'd imagine would happen if I found myself in the same situation. I will say that the spiral staircase sequence made me pucker a bit. I liked the artiness of it all: the domicile of said mad scientist, to include huge paintings of conjoined twins and the subtle nuance of the three candles on the coffee table while the stark white of the basement laboratory set the stage for some very sick, very German and Japanese, style of depravity. I also found the costumes worn by the madman to be inspired in that they looked very medical, very German couture, and very Japanese traditional all at the same time. Overall, definitely worth a watch but still left me wanting more...Stay sick!

Jenn and I are heading up to Washington D.C. tomorrow to see the Buzzcocks play. I saw them once years ago in Hoboken , NJ. They put on an awesome show. I can't wait to go see them!

Jenn, Alex (a friend of ours from work) and I went to Maymont park last night and saw Sharon Jones. Let me tell you...that woman can sing and dance like nobodies business. What a great stage presence! Had an awesome time there, then headed over to Sidewalk for some drinks where we met up with some other work friends. A good time was has by all. Fun!!

Couldn't pass this up.

So yeah, Jenn and I went to get some Mexican food (which was delish and accompanied by some very large, fishbowl sized mango margaritas as well as some giant sized Dos Equis beers). lemme just say this...don't bother. Driving to work in the morning is twice as scary and original.. le sigh.

So, I finally had my court date for the bullshit charges brought against me by the wonderful state of Maryland. I didn't fare too well. I'm pissed about it. I mean, fact is, if I had not been on my scooter, it would have never happened. And THAT, my friends, is discrimination. It's also just life and I have gotten used to being treated unfairly based on my general aesthetic. I mean, there is NO denying the fact that I got pulled for going 57 in a 55 zone on a holiday weekend where most people on the road were doing 70mph or better. I'm over it now...I'll move on.

After court (which took waaaay longer than expected and caused us to miss more than half of the Specials set) Jenn & I stopped at this awful diner and ate some crappy food. Not saying we didn't like the place or it was anything less than we expected, contrarily, it was precisely what we expected. That is NOT it pictured on the left. I wish is was that cool. So then we headed the rest of the way up to NYC. Got a hotel room in Jersey City (just across the river) and caught the last 30 min or so of the Specials set. They were awesome. We were bummed that we didn't see the entire show, but that's life, ey? Afterward, we met some cool Canadians who just so happened to be scooterists and friends of friends (small world). We dropped by one of the after-parties and proceeded to get schlotzkied. As a bonus, I ran into some old NYC friends as well. (that's my Jenn in the hotel room before we went out)

    The next day was spent (and I don't use that word lightly $$$), in SoHo, NoHo, and on St.Marks place, eating good food, drinking, and shopping. My good friend, fellow scooterist, and Ska extraordinaire rode her scoot down from her casa up town and as a trio we shopped, drank and ate, until we literally dropped. (on the left is me in my new hat that Jenn got for me in the Ben Sherman store) We made some loose plans the night before to go out to Brooklyn to see the Business play but decided to spend the remainder of the evening in the hotel just sleeping and spending time together (ha ha, Jenn and I, not Maya).

    On Friday we drove down to Bordentown and picked up Hudson and Marisol, then headed back to VA. We all crashed hard at my folks house then Jenn went to RVA the next morning as she had to work. The kids and I had a great day together on Saturday,throwing around the football, playing games, etc. On Sunday I drove them back up to NJ and then drove myself back to VA.
    Monday morning started with my usual trip to MCV for light treatment, then off to Thor's house to install new rear brakes on my scoot. Preceded by a quick run to Broad street to apprehend a crack-head who stole a friends cellphone, then later that day I went to work.

On Tuesday I went back to MCV and had surgery. Yes, it seems the batteries on my shock box (my internal cardioverter defibrillator) had died and I had to get it replaced. So, here I am. Tired and in pain, but happy and well. (that's a pic of my shock box on the left)

Just got done scrubbing down the bathroom (pre painting scrub), was hoping to go for a ride with Pat, one of the Fools. But it seems that Fool has lost his keys. Oh well I'm going anyway, maybe he'll locate the things before I arrive at his casa. That's his Lambretta on the right and my Vespa on the left.
